Taunet Nelel Welfare
Welcome to Taunet Nelel Welfare – Victoria
Taunet Nelel Welfare – Victoria is a compassionate community-based initiative designed to support members of the Kalenjin community living in Victoria, Australia. Established under Taunet Nelel Incorporated, our Welfare aims to provide timely, respectful, and dignified financial support to registered members during times of bereavement.
By drawing on the values of mutual aid and unity, Taunet Welfare creates a safety net that ensures no family walks through loss alone
Why Taunet Welfare
Losing a loved one is emotionally and financially overwhelming. For many families, especially those far from home, the burden can be heavy. Taunet Nelel Welfare was formed in response to this reality—recognising the need for a reliable, structured support system that our community can turn to in times of crisis.
Our goal is to ease the immediate financial pressure following a loss and to honour our culture of standing together during difficult moments. The Welfare promotes community resilience, dignity in grief, and a shared responsibility to care for one another.
What Are the Benefits of Joining?
- Bereavement financial support for the loss of a member or their immediate family (as defined in the constitution)
- Dignified community response and solidarity in times of loss
- Peace of mind, knowing that support is available when it’s needed most

- The ability to contribute to a stronger, more united Kalenjin community in Victoria
How Is the Welfare Financed?
Taunet Welfare is sustained through a combination of member contributions and community-driven fundraising:
- A one-time joining fee of AUD $300 per member, payable within 90 days of registration.
- Equal contributions from active members to replenish the fund after any disbursement.
- Annual fundraising dinner held every first weekend of July.
- Donations, raffle tickets, and community social enterprise activities.
All funds are held in a dedicated Welfare account and are strictly used for approved welfare purposes as outlined in the constitution. Transparent financial practices ensure sustainability, accountability, and readiness to respond to member needs.
