Our History
Taunet Nelel was established in 2021 as a community-based organisation in Victoria. It is a not-for-profit organization that aims to promote harmony and multi-cultural richness in the diverse cultural setting of Australia while encouraging the social and cultural development of the Kalenjin community through various cultural and social events among other activities which are organized each year with a view to keeping our heritage intact.
Taunet Nelel and its members believe in the importance of the cultural link between Australia and Kenya. They also believe in its social benefits. Taunet Nelel organizes various annual events such as cultural events, entertainment nights, Kalenjin language literature, rite of passage ceremonies, social education, and traditional marriage ceremonies.
Our organization, Taunet Nelel, values the rich culture of Australia and supports every individual in realizing their aspirations far from their native location. The Kalenjin community in Australia belongs to culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. They often find value and meaning in maintaining activities that align with their cultural background. It has been found that this improves mental health wellbeing by improving social connections among its members and extending to other communities. When members can practice and share these aspects of the culture, they feel a sense of belonging and appreciate diversity.
Inclusivity
The benefits of this include a healthy mind, the ability to develop social connections amongst its members, and the ability to extend to other communities, thus improving mental health. When members can practice and share these aspects of the culture, they feel a sense of belonging and appreciate diversity.
Taunet Nelel incorporation is an inclusive not-for-profit organisation that strives to bring the Kalenjin Australian communities and other interested parties in Victoria together through fun and meaningful social and artistic events and activities that are organised each year; it also strives to foster unity, harmony, societal and societal awareness among its community members. Taunet Nelel organisation intends to conduct monthly Kalenjin language literacy, yearly rite of passage for our Kalenjin youth, biannual Kalenjin cultural education and occasionally traditional marriage ceremonies. All these are geared toward encouraging the social and cultural development of the Kalenjin community, as reflected in the Taunet Nelel Constitution.
