Introducing the 2025-2026 Taunet Nelel Committee members! Our team of passionate members is dedicated to serving the Kalenjin community in Victoria.
Ruto Mang’usho
CHAIRMAN
I am a dedicated community leader with extensive experience in community service, fostering strong relationships, promoting engagement, and driving positive change. I am a results-driven individual who takes pride in delivering timely and excellent service. Networking and event planning are my strengths, and I prioritize quality and timely service delivery.
Time management is a key virtue of my service delivery, and I am a results-driven professional. Through my experience, I have successfully orchestrated initiatives, raised substantial funds to finance several community events, and fostered community cohesion.
I am a self-proclaimed cultural ambassador for the Kalenjin community in Australia. Championing the teaching of the Kalenjin language, traditional dressing during cultural performances, and dancing is part of my cultural ambassadorship. I am passionate about empowering others to succeed in the community and advancing a transformative agenda for the community.
Betty Langat
VICE CHAIRLADY
Betty Langat is a Kenyan Australian Culture die hard, Who is committed to preserving, promoting, and advancing the rich heritage of the Kalenjin culture. Known for her passionate leadership and deep-rooted cultural knowledge, Betty plays a vital role in advocating for the values, traditions, and identity of the Kenyan/Kalenjin people in both local and diaspora communities.
A proud daughter, mother and Auntie of the highlands, Betty exemplifies the spirit of “Chebo Muren”—resilience, wisdom, and unity. As Vice Chairlady, she supports the coordination of cultural events, youth mentorship, and women empowerment programs that celebrate language, folklore, dress, and traditional rites. Her voice has been instrumental in creating platforms where cultural expression thrives, especially among the younger generation.
With humility and strength, Betty Langat continues to inspire many through her commitment to cultural education, social cohesion, and the preservation of indigenous knowledge. Her leadership at Taunet reflects a vision of a connected, proud, and future-focused Kalenjin community.

I’m a dedicated member of the community committed to the development of the local community and the empowerment of grassroots organizations.
As the General Secretary of Taunet Nelel Organization, I coordinate the activities of the organization. In my role, I facilitate communication between stakeholders and ensure the smooth
operation of our programs and initiatives.

Lydia Kiplagat
TREASURER
My name is Lydia Kiplagat, and I lead the Accounts/Finance Department at Taunet Nelel. I am an Associate Member of both CPA Australia and CPA Kenya, with experience in public practice and tax accounting. It is a privilege to contribute my financial expertise to an organization that stands as a bridge between tradition and modern life, helping our people stay connected to their roots no matter where they are in the world.
At Taunet Nelel, I am committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and financial sustainability—values that are deeply aligned with the principles of integrity and communal responsibility that are central to our culture. Our heritage teaches us the importance of supporting one another, of being good stewards not just of resources, but of relationships and shared identity.

Responsibilities:
The Women Representative office was created to give women of Taunet Nelel Association a forum to gather, interact, reflect, support, and encourage each other while seeking opportunities for growth in Victoria.
Mission:
To promote and advocate for women and girl child freedom and independence. To promote a cohesive and inclusive community of Taunet Nelel.
Vision:
We envision a progressive community of confident, empowered, and successful women and girls who enjoy equal rights as men and boys.

I’m a Kenyan expatriate and a beacon of cultural integration and community leadership in Melbourne. My journey from an international student to a pivotal community figure demonstrates his dedication to creating a welcoming environment for the Kenyan diaspora and enhancing multicultural understanding in Australia.
I have transformed challenges into growth opportunities through his empowering leadership style. Through Taunet Nelel, i’ve worked to ensures the preservation and celebration of Kenyan culture, helping immigrants maintain strong connections to their roots.
Our community support efforts provide both emotional and practical assistance to immigrants, easing their transition and fostering a strong community network. Our initiatives promote multicultural integration, enhancing cooperation and understanding within Australian society.
My work is about building bridges and creating a ‘home away from home’ for many. His contributions enrich Australia’s multicultural tapestry and demonstrate the power of inclusive community leadership.

MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING
As the Mental Health Coordinator at Taunet Nelel, I am dedicated to supporting our community members’ well-being and mental health. I am passionate about promoting positive mental health practices and providing supportive resources. My goal is to empower individuals to take control of their mental health and well-being, and to foster a sense of community and connection.
I’m committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone in our community. I work closely with our team to develop and implement initiatives that foster a safe, inclusive, and compassionate environment.
My role involves providing mental health support, advice, and resources to community members and collaborating with our Welfare team to ensure a holistic approach to community care. I’m committed to creating a culture of understanding, empathy, and connection within our organisation, and I’m excited to work alongside our community to promote mental health awareness and support.

I’m a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator committed to promoting mental wellness and fostering a supportive, inclusive environment.
I possess a solid background in mental health, Alcohol and other Drugs, psychological support, and well-being education, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Adept at building relationships with mental health professionals, experienced in developing, implementing, and managing mental health programs and initiatives tailored to the needs of diverse populations, including students and community members.

As the Sports Director of Taunet Ne Lel—the Kenyan Kalenjin Community in Australia—I’m honoured to serve a role that brings our community together through the power of sports. My mission is to promote health, unity, and talent across all age groups and skill levels. Whether you’re young or old, a seasoned athlete or just starting out, there’s a place for you in sport.
I believe in building strong partnerships with local organisations, schools, and sponsors to expand our reach and create more opportunities for our members. Together, we can strengthen our community by actively seeking and securing funding through grants, sponsorships, and community-driven initiatives.
